WHAT IS AN IMMOBILISER
A vehicle immobiliser is an electronic security device installed in a vehicle to prevent it from being started without the correct key or authentication. It works by disabling one or more critical systems required to start the engine, such as the fuel system, ignition, or starter motor. This makes it much harder for thieves to steal the vehicle, as they cannot simply hotwire it or use a duplicate key.
Vehicle immobilisers are commonly used as an anti-theft measure and are often integrated into modern car security systems. They can be factory-fitted by the manufacturer or added as an aftermarket accessory. Some advanced immobilisers even use RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) or smartphone apps for added security.
Relay Attack
Relay attacks, also known as keyless car thefts, are a method where criminals exploit the keyless entry systems in modern vehicles. Here's a quick rundown of how it works:
1. **Two thieves work together**: One stands near your house with a device that captures the signal from your key fob, even if it's inside your home.
2. **Signal relay**: This signal is then relayed to a second thief who is near your car.
3. **Unlocking the car**: The second thief's device receives the signal and tricks the car into thinking the key is nearby, allowing them to unlock and start the car.
This process can take as little as 20-30 seconds
OBD ATTACK
OBD port theft is a method used by car thieves to exploit the **On-Board Diagnostics (OBD) port** in vehicles. Here's how it works:
1. **Accessing the OBD port**: Thieves gain access to the OBD port, which is usually located under the dashboard or near the driver's seat.
2. **Using specialized tools**: They use devices to connect to the OBD port and access the vehicle's electronic systems.
3. **Copying the key fob data**: Thieves can download the digital key data stored in the car's Engine Control Unit (ECU) and use it to create a duplicate key.
4. **Stealing the car**: With the duplicate key, they can unlock and start the car, driving away without any visible signs of forced entry.
This method can also take very little time to complete
