There are three main methods thieves use to target the new-shape Ford Transit Custom, and each one requires a different layer of protection to defeat.

Relay theft — Thieves use electronic devices to amplify the signal from your keys inside your home, tricking the van into thinking the key is present and unlocking it without any sign of forced entry.

OBD port theft — Thieves gain access to the vehicle and plug a device directly into the OBD diagnostic port under the dashboard. Within minutes they can programme a blank key to start the van and drive it away — bypassing the factory immobiliser entirely.

Side panel drilling — Thieves drill through the side panels to access the locking mechanism directly, bypassing the lock without triggering the factory alarm. Tools and equipment are gone in under a minute.

The foundation of the package is the Starline S9's Triple Immobilisation system — three independent layers of engine protection that ensure the van cannot be started without your authorisation, even if a thief has a cloned key or has accessed the OBD port.

A key user optional part of this is the Pin-to-Drive feature. Before the engine can be started, the driver must enter a unique PIN code using the factory buttons already on the steering wheel or dashboard. There is no additional hardware visible to a thief. Without the correct PIN, the van will not start. This single feature defeats OBD port theft entirely.

To combat side panel drilling and forced entry, the package includes dual-zone shock sensors fitted specifically to both the rear doors and the sliding side door — the exact points thieves target on the Transit Custom.

These sensors detect the vibration of drilling or forced entry and trigger the alarm immediately, before the thief has accessed the locking mechanism. An additional rear ear-piercing siren operates independently of the factory alarm, and dual-zone proximity sensors provide an outer warning zone and inner trigger zone for early detection.

The Starline S9 integrates directly with the Transit Custom's factory alarm, taking full control and enhancing its response to ensure it triggers correctly on every type of attack. Anti-hijack protection is also included — if the vehicle is taken by force while running, the system can immobilise the van after a set period.

Upon any alarm activation, the system simultaneously triggers the siren, sends a push notification, an SMS and makes a phone call to your mobile — so you are alerted instantly no matter where you are.

Integrated GPS and GLONASS tracking gives you real-time location monitoring through the Starline 2 app on iOS and Android. Arm and Disarm remotely, check door and sensor status, monitor the battery, and receive instant alerts for any alarm activation.

If the van is moved without authorisation, you will know immediately and can provide live location data directly to you to be relayed to the  police. The first year's subscription is included in the package price, with an annual fee of £65 thereafter.
